We are delighted to announce a special reading of the new musical Kempton Bunton, to be held at The Club for Acts and Actors (Concert Artistes’ Association), 20 Bedford Street, London WC2E 9HP. This one-off event will take place on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, at 2.30pm and will run for approximately 90 minutes.
Set on Tyneside in the early 1960s, Kempton Bunton brings to life the extraordinary true story of a retired bus driver whose daring act captured the imagination of a nation. With a witty libretto and an uplifting, lively score, this new musical charts the remarkable tale of Kempton Bunton, who was famously tried for the theft of Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery. Beneath the headlines, however, lies a deeply touching story of a man driven by love for his family and a belief in justice and fairness.
In a world increasingly dominated by authority and inequality, Kempton Bunton’s defiant spirit and determination to stand up for “the little guy” still resonates today. Kempton Bunton is a heartfelt celebration of ordinary people who dare to dream of a better, more compassionate world.
We look forward to sharing an inspiring story filled with humour, heart, and hope.
